Stove Cleaning

Tuesday August 9th., 2011

We have had a relatively quiet day with the usual trip to Sorbas to buy a few things for the house.
Kuba has been renovating the stove in the "salon" , you can see the photograph. We watched a film in the afternoon and then set too with a fast round of watering and all those evening duties.

The weather is amazing, below 30 degrees, this is quite a treat for us, especially in August.the fly population is high, but we all get used to them, just a part of Summer in El Rio. There seem to be less mosquitoes than "normal" and an absence of "ticks" on the dogs. this is the second year we have had this phenomena, In the past we have been plagued by both mosquitoes and "ticks". It is strange and I do not know what has caused the change. Certainly, it is very dry, I cannot remember when it last rained, it is months ago rather than weeks ago. !

Cleaning calcified "ball valve" with dilute hydroclhoric acid.

Ondra "on the job",.!

That's me, David, Mountain Climbing in Morroco.

Monday August 8th, 2011

Another day with loads of little jobs and some bigger ones. ! You can see from the pictures that Ondra and Eva have whitened up the north side of the house. Very good to see. Smaller jobs are "legion" to pumping water to the main tank for Tim's house, to filling the pool, to repairing the light in the bathroom, to de-scaling the ball valve on the roof, to welcoming visitors, like a normal busy day.
I have decided to include a few older pictures in my daily picture upload. Today I found a picture of myself mountain climbing in Morocco. !

Ondra and Eva "morteroing" the East Front

h

A Surprise Picture - "The Emerald Isle" - Galway in June - The view from my sister and brother-in-law's house.

Sunday August 7th., 2011

It's a hot Sunday, even the walls are warm, so, that means that temperatures are over blood heat - so - I think we must have hit the 40 degree mark. !
So far no fire, but the wind is blowing fairly hard from the South and that can be pretty dangerous if a fire starts - they just tear across the land burning everything combustible in their path.
For us, we have been watching the new Harry Potter movie - very much like the last book and yes, well made.
We had a barbecue last night with 0ndra's barbecue recepie, which is excellent, the addition of some beer on the meat is good. !
For now, this evening, as usual, watering, more or less 500 litres in buckets - my gymnasium - and Ondra and Eva have "morteroed" the East Front. Good work. It's getting dark a little earlier now, like about 9.30, so supper gets a little earlier too. !

Good Job Well Done

Saturday August 6th., 2011

It's getting hotter every day - now we are to the high 30's, we are due to peak tomorrow and Monday, then Tuesday a drop to 29 or 30 degrees with maybe a thunderstorm. We hope so. !!

Kuba and Ivi have finished the area above the kitchen which is now a "chill out" zone, though to "chill" at the moment is not easy. !!

A Place for Growing Vegetables. Come back "Irish Dave"

Ondra Repairing the Car.

"Finger lick'in good". Dinner for 13 - large flat Chicken. !!

Friday August 5th., 2011

Gardening,  that is a gift which, of course, includes a love of nature. In my 12 years with the land you see in the picture, only Lester and Irish Dave have shown and manifested that  ability to bring the land into cultivation and harvest. Maybe with the global downturn in economics we will see more gardeners. I hope so. !
Mihai, Andreea and Filipe left this morning for Madrid where they will stay for a day or two, then they are off to the Rainbow Festival in Portugal.
I have been to Vera with Ondra, Eva and Kuba to buy some car parts and "tint" colour for the white paint for house painting, so, all's well, still hot. !!

"Fluffy" and the swing. !

Andreea's Painting.

Thursday August 4th., 2011

I was pretty "gobsmacked" when I read the article this morning, and I felt it worth sharing on the "blog".

Here’s what Obama said, to loud applause from the well-heeled folks at Facebook: April 20th., 2010. Facebook HQ., Palo Alto, California.

"Nothing is easier than solving a problem on the backs of people who are poor, people who are powerless and don't have lobbyists or don't have clout."

That is exactly what he's done. I am awaiting reactions  from the American public who have been "shafted". !!

For us, here in El Rio, another hot day, mid 30's. I have spent much of the day on the computer, catching up with E mails and so on. Painting, car fixing, cleaning and cooking seem to have been main activities in and around the house.
